A little known fact. My last job before I became a full-time, er, whatever it is I do, was working in a bank.
Whilst working in this bank I learned a lot. A lot about how banks really work. How impossibly difficult it is for people in financial difficulties to get cheap credit to get them out of debt for a start. Anyway that’s a different story.
I wanted to share my thoughts on a new bank account I’ve just opened.
For the past 3 years I have paid a monthly subscription for a current account which included, travel insurance, mobile phone insurance and breakdown cover. I suspected I could get a better deal elsewhere, so I had a look around.
The best deal I’ve found and subsequently opened, is a NATIONWIDE FLEX PLUS account.
Simply, the account costs £10 a month for breakdown cover, travel insurance, mobile phone insurance and a few other extras too. Great deal eh? An even better deal if you have some spare money knocking around too, as the current account pays 3% interest on balances up to £2500 (2.4% NET). Which means, if you park £2500 in the current account, you will earn £5 a month interest, making the account only £5 a month.
I’m using it as a secondary account just for the protection it includes, so I can’t really comment on anything more than that. It was a super simple process to open (I did it all on my iPhone), and everything came through the post in a matter of days.
Here’s to making the most with your money.
